FSA ID Enhancements Coming in April
On April 14, 2019, we will implement several enhancements to improve the FSA ID experience.
The FSA ID—a user-selected username and password—is required for students, parents, and borrowers to authenticate their identity and access their federal student aid information on several Federal Student Aid online systems, including fafsa.gov.
The FSA ID enhancements will include the following:
- A user will be able to use his or her verified mobile phone number as his or her FSA ID username when logging into certain Federal Student Aid systems.
- The 18-month password update requirement will be removed. A user will be prompted to change his or her password only during account recovery or for a security event.
- Special characters will no longer be required for FSA ID passwords.
Find details about the enhancements in the "Upcoming Enhancements to the FSA ID" announcement on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals website.
Please direct students, parents, and borrowers to StudentAid.gov/fsaid if they need FSA ID information, tips, or a link to create an FSA ID. (That page will be updated once the new enhancements are in place.)
An FSA ID holder who needs additional help should contact the customer service center for the Federal Student Aid system (fafsa.gov, National Student Loan Data System, StudentLoans.gov, etc.) that he or she is trying to access. Each Federal Student Aid system that requires the FSA ID has a link to service center support, typically under "Help" or "Contact Us."
